Light Blue

The view towards Ben Lomond National Park looking across fields of Canola. The image was taken along the Midlands Highway, towards Conara. The beauty of this scene is extenuated by the late afternoon light not only on the Canola but illuminating the Gum tree as well.

As strong as the light was the sky is full of pastel pinks which is what sets this apart from being just a photo of a field crop. Further to the East, towards Ben Lomond are the small towns of Deddington and Blessington where John Clover lived and painted during the mid 1800s.

During the 1990 Tasmania allowed a number of small field trials of Genetically Modified (GM) Canola amid much controversy. So far there is a moratorium on commercial GM food crops until 2008 and to date all other states have followed.

The image in the gallery is of a non GM crop.
