The Walls of Jerusalem National park forms part of the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area along with the Wild Rivers, Cradle Mountain and the Southwest Conservation area. The region is an alpine wilderness dominated by dolerite peaks and alpine vegetation. In this image you can see Cushion Plants, Pencil Pines and the wonderful and colourful Richea Scoparia.

The main purpose of my visit to the Walls on this occasion was to capture the Scoparia flowering. While it does flower every year a spectacular display is produced in every second year. The time of flowering varies but is generally between mid December and mid January. For the rest of the year its an ugly little prickly bush, although in the South West it can grow beyond 3 Metres in height.

Have a look in the Gallery for my “Herods Gate” image that capture the mood of the Walls and has lovely display of Scoparia. The Park is very exposed to the extremes of Tasmania's changeable weather and there are no visitor facilities in the remote area.
